Eighty-six percent of litter in the Great Lakes is from plastic, based on 20 years of data and 14,000 volunteer clean-ups on beaches around the lakes, “The new analysis details the most common types of plastic items found on Great Lakes shorelines and outlines potential solutions to reduce plastic pollution.” The authors report that the lakes are the source of drinking water for 40 million people. Alliance for the Great Lakes provided the analysis. Climatecrisis24 believes this is more evidence of the effects of plastic on the environment. Plastic has been found miles down in oceans, and plastics are in most drinking water. There is evidence it can cause heart disease and stroke. Additionally, plastics in the environment may not disappear for centuries or even longer.

Expensive Climate Problem –Chocolate?

According to a report from CNBC, the world’s two happiest countries are targeting improved environmental conditions. Denmark and Finland recently topped the annual World Happiness Report. Each is targeting net negative emissions. Finland’s goal is to be at that level by 2035. Climatecrisis247 believes this kind of research is flawed. The Global Happiness Report does not cover climate activity or policy. The reasons for a relation to climate policy are subjective.

More Climate Data Access For Disadvantaged

The NOAA has released its Equitable Climate Services Action Plan. “The plan aims to expand the reach and accessibility of NOAA’s climate services, enabling the agency to better respond to the climate adaptation and resilience needs of all communities — with an emphasis on historically underserved populations.” According to the agency’s study, “underserved communities” include indigenous and Tribal populations. The NOAA wants its service available without regard to the size or location of communities. Climatecrisis247 believes that this is one of several initiatives to ensure that climate data and forecasts are not just available to middle- and upper-class Americans with access to weather services and the media.

Moving Huge Numbers Of Trees

According to media company Mother Jones, cities are trying to plant more climate-resistant trees: “To find solutions, researchers are studying which trees could do better than those currently struggling in rapidly warming cities, with an eye toward species that have already adapted to drier regions hundreds or even thousands of miles away.” Climatecrisis247 believes this would be a massive, unaffordable, and logistical nightmare. The idea that new species of trees can be moved to or planted in hundreds of cities is an impossible undertaking.
