A new survey was carried out in 26 countries on five continents, involving over 29,500 individuals (between 1,000 and 2,000 per country). It was conducted between 17 October and 6 December 2023. The sponsor of the study was done by Veolia, which has been publishing the Barometer of Ecological Transformation every two years
The study’s primary conclusion was that 89%of the world’s inhabitants agree that a CLIMATE DISRUPTION is CURRENTLY HAPPENING. This ranged from 97% in Hungary and Brazil to a low of 78% in Australia.
Climate Deniers
In the US, at 80%, the percentage of people who agree with the statements about climate change is unusually low.
Other conclusions are that climate denial is moving higher among conservatives and that 35% of respondents have a doubt that the future is in our hands anymore. Nine percent say the future of climate change is entirely out of our hands.
Slowing or reversing the climate crisis based on US policy is a major, major hurdle.
