While a bulk of the United States experienced record drought conditions last month, some parts of the country had their wettest Novembers on record. Several major rainstorms brought more than 10 inches of precipitation to dozens of counties throughout the Midwest, shattering prior records for November rainfall.

In total, 75 counties recorded their wettest Novembers on record last month, representing 1.3% of the U.S. population. A closer look at NOAA data reveals cities throughout the Midwest where November rain shattered prior records last month.

To determine the places that just had their wettest Novembers on record, Climate Crisis 24/7 reviewed county-level data on monthly precipitation from the NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information. County seats with at least 7,500 residents were ranked based on the difference in total monthly precipitation in November 2024 and the prior monthly record. Only cities where November 2024 ranks as the wettest November on record – going back to 1895 – were included. All data is at the county level.
