AI Can Create Its Own Energy Solution

Among the most pressing problems with AI server farms is the electricity they use and the stress on the grid that delivers it. According to several experts, AI can solve its grid problem.

According to Bloomberg, “While many artificial intelligence tools are aimed at software developers and office workers, venture capitalist Vinod Khosla and former Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker are investing in a startup deploying the technology for dirty, time-consuming infrastructure maintenance tasks like pest control and inspecting power poles and air-conditioning systems.”

While the development is exciting, it solves only a fraction of the problem. Energy generation is by far the greater challenge. It is estimated that as much as half the electricity used in America could be for AI in less than a decade.

Nuclear Energy

The issue of electricity generation is a key concern in the pursuit of green energy. President Trump has several initiatives that wll slow down the development and deployment of wind and solar. This means funding will also be more challenging to get.

Nuclear is one solution to the green energy problem. The most promising technology for this is small modular reactors. The development and deployment of these will probably not happen in large numbers until early in the next decade,

AI can help itself, but not enough.
