Microsoft Pushes Huge AI Energy Initiative
Microsoft has announced a huge initiative to provide energy for AI data centers. It is an impressive group or partner, each of which can provide billions of dollars to the new plan. The initiative will be founded by BlackRock, Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), and MGX . The name of the venture is
The new venture will be called the Global AI Infrastructure Investment Partnership (GAIIP). Most of its work will be done in the US. Today, the American grid and power generation are considered too weak to supply the huge energy drain caused by AI. This will, eventually, put it into competition with consumer and legacy energy users. The needs of these two groups may rise due to the need for air conditioning to combat the heat from global warming.
Nvidia Joins
Nvidia will join the group as it supplies expertise. “The partnership will initially seek to unlock $30 billion of private equity capital over time from investors, asset owners, corporates, which in turn will mobilize up to $100 billion in total investment potential when including debt financing.”
Energy use from AI is expected to grow to the level that it equals the entire consumer of Japan within a decade.
