I’m Dreaming of a Green Christmas? December 25 Will Be Abnormally Warm in These Cities

In Phoenix, temperatures will breach 75°F, more than 20°F beyond normal. Several cities throughout the West and Southwest will experience even greater heat anomalies. A look at NOAA forecast data reveals the cities that will be abnormally warm this Christmas.

To determine the cities where Christmas will abnormally warm this year, Climate Crisis 247 reviewed data on historical temperatures and temperature forecasts from the NOAA. Cities with at least 100,000 residents were ranked based on the difference between the maximum forecast temperature for December 25, 2024 and the historical average maximum temperature for Christmas Day from 1921 to 2020. Data was aggregated from Global Historical Climatology Network weather stations to places using boundary definitions from the U.S. Census Bureau. Only stations with at least 100 years of data were considered.
