The drop in prices is not even around the country. While price declines are steepest in the South and Midwest, the price of gas has moved sluggishly in the Northeast and West Coast. Three states – Utah, Colorado, and Hawaii – actually logged net increases in the cost of gas since April. A closer look at the data reveals the states where gas prices are dropping the fastest.
To determine the states where gas prices are declining the most, Climate Crisis 247 reviewed data on daily average gas prices from the American Automobile Association. States were ranked based on the percentage change in the average cost of a gallon of regular gas from April 7, 2025 to May 7, 2025. Population data are from the U.S. Census Bureau.
