Meteorologist Ryan Maue posted on X, “Total rainfall east of the Mississippi for the past 5-days including an upper-level low and Hurricane Helene: over 40 Trillion gallons.” That means the figure is complex to verify.
$160 Billion
None of the numbers thrown around about the amount of rain or damages is accurate. AccuWeather recently said total storm damage was as much as $160 billion. However, that included obscure data like future forecasts of lost wages, which are impossible to forecast.
Storms of this magnitude have become press and PR circus, which mask, to some extent, the immensity of the tragedy.
