Beyond Meat’s Big Comeback

The fight that breaks out every few years about the danger of eating meat has cropped up again. Experts advise the US government on how much meat is safe to eat. The recommendations are likely to be that meat causes danger to the heart. People are better off eating plant-based food, which includes peas and beans. This cycle favors non-meat meat makers. Beyond Meat has been out of favor for some time.

Beyond Meat went public on May 5, 2019. On its first day of trading, it jumped 163%, nearly a record. In the last five years, the stock has been down 92%, while the S&P 500 has been higher by 90%.

Beyond Meat’s early pitch was that it was good for the environment and tasted good. Gemini reports, “Beef is one of the most greenhouse gas-intensive animal proteins. Cows and other ruminants emit methane and nitrous oxide as they digest food and from their manure.”

McPlant Sandwich

McDonald’s introduced a meatless hamburger called McPlant to capitalize on what appears to be a movement away from cattle beef. Earlier this year, sales were so low it was called “a failure.” Beyond Meat was, for the most part, more expensive than regular meat as well.

The proposed new dietary measures will remind people that meat is bad for them, which could boost Beyond Meat’s sales.
