Transportation is among America’s largest causes of greenhouse gas emissions, and heavy trucks are a significant contributor. Most large trucks haul freight, some of which is done by UPS, the Postal Service, and FedEx. All of these factors make Amazon a major polluter, if indirectly.

Drones are among the more revolutionary parts of Amazon’s future plans. According to Axios, “Amazon’s goal is to deliver 500 million packages a year by drone by 2029.” It is impossible to calculate what that saves in gasoline or diesel and, therefore, the positive effects on the environment.

What is certain is that if the Amazon experiment works, it will be adopted by other haulers of light freight. Drones are almost certainly a way to cut delivery times and fuel costs.

Congestion In The Air

Drones were considered a possible danger to airline traffic and new congestion in the skies close to homes and businesses because they do not fly at high levels. Better navigation systems and AI-guided drones should take almost all that risk away,

Amazon drone news is old. The company began experimenting with them years ago and has had years to prove they are a safe and efficient delivery method.

Amazon’s drones will be in the sky, which means they will have fewer trucks on the ground.
