COP29 Climate Summit Appears To Fail

The future of nations that have banded together to fight climate change, which will endanger part of the human race, has already proven to be a failure. On paper, the US, part of the group, will withdraw when Donald Trump becomes president. According to Bloomberg, the Saudi Arabian government has dodged some of the summit’s most important goals.”Saudi Arabia is leading a push back with a mix of delaying tactics and outright blocking maneuvers.” Without these two nations, each a major polluter and provider of capital to poor countries as these battle climate change marks an end to the alliance COP29 was hoping to strengthen.

Nations withdrawing from the alliance are only part of the problem. The funds needed to address the climate challenges for future decades have yet to be available, and they will not be. The money is moving in the wrong direction. The Washington Post reports, “Countries promised to ditch fossil fuels. Instead, they’re booming.” The paper adds that this is another year lost on the short timeline left to make lowering greenhouse gases a reality.

Last Stand For Climate

COP29 may be the real last stand for those who want to stop the increase in greenhouse gases and slow global warming. The fossil fuel industry continues to grow. The world’s need for energy keeps expanding. Renewable energy sources are not growing quickly enough to replace most of the rising energy need.

End Of An Era

COP29 may be remembered as the end of joint government efforts to save the climate
