Could global warming lead to war? Well, that’s the frightening scenario put forward in a just released book.

Author Peter Schwartzstein’s “The Heat and the Fury: On the Frontlines of Climate Violence” offers “a vital and riveting account of how climate change is already pulling societies apart, feeding violence across the globe,” reports Scientific American.

The observations build upon other warnings. For example, a recent study from Columbia University pointed out that farmers, in particular, have had to move from places where they can no longer grow crops to those where they may be able to. The research points out that violence can be a byproduct of this migration because the residents of the places the struggling citizens wish to move to may block them from doing so.

In addition, the World Bank forecasts that a severe problem will worsen quickly, pointing out that as many as 783 million people faced hunger in 2022 and that 600 million people will struggle to feed themselves by 2050.

In this regard, climate migration has already started around the world as residents face worsened droughts, more-violent storms and a rise in flooding.
