EVs That Go The Farthest On A Single Charge

These are the EVs sold in America with the highest official EPA-estimated ranges on a single charge. The list includes 2025/2026 models and, in some cases, late 2024 models when they are identical to later versions. Ranges represent the longest-range configuration of each model, which typically includes features like 19-inch wheels and often all-wheel drive (AWD).

It’s important to note that real-world highway range is often lower depending on speed, temperature, and driving style. According to Edmunds, EPA figures can be off by a large margin. For example, the EPA lists the range of the 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ as almost 100 miles different from the Edmunds number. Edmunds reached this conclusion after testing 119 EVs.

The EV industry in the US has changed radically in 2025. In 2021, the Biden Administration set a goal that 50% of all new car sales in the US would be EVs by 2030. Today, that figure stands at only about 5% of new vehicles sold. One major reason for this gap is that the federal government previously offered $7,500 tax credits on most EVs sold, but the Trump Administration ended that incentive as of September 30.

Even industry leader Tesla has been affected by recent trends. According to Reuters, Tesla sales hit a four-year low in November. The outlet reported that “the company’s total sales fell nearly 23% to 39,800 vehicles from 51,513 a year earlier and were the lowest since January 2022, according to the data from Cox, which tracks sales across the industry.” For the overall industry, the outlook was even worse: nationwide sales of all EVs fell 41% in the same month.

The car industry has lost billions of dollars attempting to break into the EV sector. Ford provides the most striking example. The company announced it would invest $30 billion into its EV programs and projected it could produce two million EVs annually. This week, Ford took a $19.5 billion write-down as it abandoned most of its EV venture. The Wall Street Journal reported that “the sum is among the largest impairments taken by a company and marks the U.S. auto industry’s biggest reckoning to date that it can’t realize its electric-vehicle ambitions anytime soon.” There is concern that some smaller EV companies like Rivian and Lucid may not survive at all, despite their products often receiving excellent reviews.

Despite the fact that the vehicles on this list achieve greater distances on a single charge than most EVs, range is still considered a major issue for potential buyers and remains a key reason many people avoid EVs. The average range for EVs is between 250 and 300 miles, while gas-powered cars average approximately 400 miles per tank.

Beyond range, several other factors have slowed EV sales:

Price: The average price of a new gas-powered car is  about $49,000, while the average EV costs over $10,000 more.
Charging Infrastructure: Consumers have also been deterred by the limited number of public charging stations. A look at the map of Tesla Superchargers shows they are heavily concentrated in California and along the Atlantic coast, with a cluster in Texas. They are much harder to find in the rest of the country.
