According to AccuWeather, storm activity is increasing in both the eastern and western Gulf of Mexico, with water temperatures currently at 86 degrees Fahrenheit — about six degrees above normal for this time of year. Typically, temperatures would begin to drop in the fall, but this year they have remained unusually high, with some areas of the Atlantic reaching as much as 100 degrees.
