The container ships making their way through the Strait of Hormuz carry everything from farm fertilizer to cars. However, the No.1 cargo is oil. The fuel for these tankers is Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO), Very Low Sulfur Fuel Oil (VLSFO), and Marine Gas Oil (MGO). These are the least green fuels used in transportation. And the problem will persist. Most of these ships have a 25-year-old life.
