Rising Electricity Demand and Grid Weakness Drive Soaring Prices
Douglas McIntyre, Editor-in-Chief at Climate Crisis 24/7, explains that rising electricity demand in parts of the U.S. is pushing utility prices sharply higher. According to Inside Climate News, PJM Interconnection — which operates the nation’s largest power grid — has held two record-breaking capacity auctions, passing costs to consumers. Increased demand from data centers and delays in approving new grid projects have worsened the strain. McIntyre warns that this overtaxing of the grid is not new and will likely continue across the country.
