Jeff Bezos, billionaire and founder of Amazon.com, is pouring money into climate change solutions. The sum is so small compared to the need that it barely matters. Without global cooperation from governments and the world’s largest energy companies, the climate crisis will not slow, let alone reverse.

Billionaire Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos has a nonprofit aimed at attacking climate change. His “Earth Fund” will spend $100 million on “AI Solutions to Tackle Climate Change and Nature Loss.” Bezos said as he launched the project, “Can modern AI help counter climate change and nature loss, and, if so, how? That’s the question we hope to answer. By bringing together brilliant minds across fields, we may be able to invent new ways forward.” The initial focus will be sustainable proteins, biodiversity conservation, and power grid optimization. The program will give grants to several companies over time.

AI And The Climate

Bezos Earth Fund President and CEO Dr. Andrew Steer said, “The future is unlikely to be characterized by straight lines and gentle curves, but rather by unexpected changes and tipping points, good or bad. The arrival of AI will potentially help solve very difficult challenges. With this program we hope to make a helpful contribution.”

Climatecrisi247 believes this is one in a long list of billionaire projects to address climate change. Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft, was among those at the center of this movement. However, even $100 billion barely dent the problem. To have any significant effect, it will require much larger public-private partnerships.
