EVs With the Quickest Charge Times
One of the largest impediments to EV adoption is consumer anxiety surrounding charging. While 51% of EV owners charge their cars at home, 42% of non-EV owners believe it is not possible to charge at home, according to a recent McKinsey survey. In other surveys, EV holdouts regularly cite range anxiety and perceived charging difficulties as reasons for not going electric.

While the EV industry still has charging infrastructure issues to sort out, improvements in battery technology over the past decade have led to significant reductions in EV charging times. Some newer models can now sustain hundreds of miles on an overnight charge from the average residential outlet. A look at EPA vehicle testing data reveals the EVs with the quickest charge times.
To determine the EVs with the quickest charge times, Climate Crisis 247 reviewed data on fuel economy characteristics from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for model years 1984 through 2025. Fully electric vehicles were ranked based on the time it takes to fully charge their battery using a 240-volt outlet. Supplemental data on average city and highway range on a full charge and combined city and highway fuel efficiency are also from the EPA. All data are based on vehicle testing done at EPA’s National Vehicle and Fuel Emissions Laboratory in Ann Arbor, Michigan as well as test results submitted to EPA by vehicle manufacturers.
