Climate Change Is Breaking Houses in Half

Leave aside homes that are flooded during hurricanes or rainstorms. The climate also causes shifts in the Earth’s surface, even if they are a millimeter a year. It does not need many millionaires to break a house in half, or even more pieces.

There are several cases where homes have been washed into the sea as areas near the ocean have been eroded. However, the greater problem lies inland, where millions of homes could be affected.

The Hill recently reported that as many as one in ten homes in the US will be affected by climate change. The New York Times recently reported, Dan Jaggers, vice president of technical services at Olshan Foundation Repair, which has offices in the South, Midwest and Great Plains  “People call panicked because they’ve got gaping cracks in their walls, tile breaking, grout popping and they don’t know what to do.”

As is the case with hurricanes, floods, and tornadoes, it is hard to forecast when parts of the ground will start to shift. This is not as predictable as earthquakes, although they are also difficult to forecast.
