As the storm heads north, dozens of counties are preparing for heavy precipitation. The National Weather Service issued flood watches for 124 counties, representing more than 24 million Americans. Several cities in Maryland and New Jersey are forecast to receive more than two inches of rain in 72 hours, while one city is expecting more than four inches of rain. To determine the cities where Chantal will bring the most rain this week, Climate Crisis 247 reviewed data on quantitative precipitation from the National Digital Forecast Database of the NOAA. Cities were ranked based on total forecast cumulative rainfall for the period July 8 to July 10, 2025. Only cities with at least 10,000 residents were considered. Population data is from the U.S. Census Bureau.
