Ford And Other Automakers Are Canceling Their EV Plans Amid Slowing Demand and Tax Credit Repeal

Over the last several months, several indicators have shown EV adoption slowing in the U.S. Electric vehicle sales dropped 6.3% year-over-year in Q2 2025, while EVs fell from 8.0% of all new car sales to 7.4% over the same period.

As demand slows, supply chains lag, and policy support from the Trump administration – including the repeal of the $7,500 EV tax credit – shifts, many carmakers are abandoning plans for new electric vehicle models. Over the past two years, automakers have delayed or canceled at least 14 EV models.
