Over the past week, a stalled cold front and several rounds of storms dumped multiple inches of rain in large swaths of the country. Heavy downpours on already saturated ground led to flooding in some areas, with dozens of river observation stations reporting historic streamflow levels.

There are at least 10 stations where current water levels are beyond flooding thresholds. A closer look at real-time data reveals the cities where flooding is the worst right now.

To determine the cities where flooding is the worst right now, Climate Crisis 247 reviewed data on current water levels from the NOAA. Cities were ranked based on the raw difference in current observed water level from reported flooding thresholds as of September 2, 2025. Only cities with at least 5,000 residents were considered. River observation stations were matched to cities using nearest neighbor analysis.
