America’s Cleanest Gasoline
Gasoline was once among the largest air polluters in the nation. This was particularly true when most cars ran on leaded fuel. In the late 1960s, it became clear that leaded gasoline was harmful to humans, and caused conditions like cognitive damage in children.
Unleaded gas ran without tetraethyl lead and became popular in the 1970s. Leaded gas was based in 1996.
As gas was broken into levels with different octane additives, some gas was rated as top tier. This type of gas had deterrents. According to the AAA, “Top Tier gasolines contain special detergent additives to prevent the buildup of carbon deposits (known as gunk) in the engine. Engine deposits increase emissions, reduce fuel economy, and lead to other performance issues, which is why the Environmental Protection Agency mandates a minimum level of detergent.”
The List Of Companies
Top tier gas is sold by 76, Arco, Chevron, Citgo, Conoco, Costco Wholesale, CountryMark, Exxon, Fast Fuel, Marathon, Meijer, Mobil, Phillips 66, QuikTrip, Ranger, Shell, Sinclair, Sunoco, Texaco, and Valero. Among the reasons these retailers might off top tier gas is that the customer is charged more for it.
The detergine in top tier gas should make engines last longer because it reduces many of the deposits that come with gas without detergents.
