According to Bloomberg, Mark Carney, Canada’s former central banker, told Radio-Canada that “It is not the first card.” However, the news service reported that Carney added negotiations with the US would be “very tough.” It is an indication of how hard Canada would strike back on tariffs.

Carney said that Canada could interrupt its exports of crude oil to the US. While this might not be as immediately catastrophic as electricity supply, its effects would be staggering.

New York City Will Be Hit Hard

The threats by Canada are a reminder of why the US needs growth in alternative energy and EVs. EV use trumps the threat of higher gas prices. Wind, solar, nuclear, and hydro power makes reliance on electricity generated outside the US fall.
