25 Cities Where Cloudy Skies Could Dull July 4th Fireworks

While many Americans are preparing to gather under the stars for Independence Day fireworks shows, views will be somewhat obscured in some parts of the country. Forecasts from the National Weather Service show significant cloud cover across parts of the country on the evening of July 4th, potentially dulling the backdrop for fireworks displays.

In dozens of major cities, more than half of the sky will be covered by clouds from 6 PM to 9 PM. In Florida, skies will be obscured by a low pressure system off the Atlantic Coast that could develop into a tropical cyclone. Meanwhile, cities in the Southwest will enjoy clear skies ideal for pyrotechnics displays. A closer look at the data reveals the worst cities for fireworks viewing this Fourth of July.

To determine the cities where clouds could spoil fireworks viewing this Fourth of July, Climate Crisis 247 reviewed data on cloud cover forecasts from the National Digital Forecast Database of the NOAA. Cities were ranked based on the average percentage of sky forecast to be covered by clouds from 6 PM to 9 PM on July 4th, 2025. City boundaries are based on place definitions from the U.S. Census Bureau. Only cities with at least 150,000 residents were considered.
