While cities like Erie are forecast to get more than 12 inches of snow in one day, snowfall totals will be nowhere near the record amount of snow the area received in November 2014, when four feet of snow fell on the city in one day. In fact, historical data shows that some municipalities in the U.S. have received more than six feet of snow in one day. A look at NOAA data reveals where and when the most snow fell within a 24-hour period in the United States.
To determine the snowiest days in U.S. history, Climate Crisis 247 reviewed data on one-day snowfall totals from the NOAA. Days were ranked based on total snowfall recorded by a single weather station in a one-day period. Only the greatest single-day total for each county was included.
