Cities Facing Triple Digit Temperatures This Holiday Weekend

Summer heat is building across the West and Southwest this holiday weekend, with millions of Americans staring down a stretch of triple-digit temperatures as Fourth of July celebrations kick off. Extreme heat is forecast to bake communities from California’s Imperial Valley to Arizona’s deserts, pushing heat risk into dangerous territory for several days in a row.
The National Weather Service issued heat advisories in 109 counties, representing over five million Americans. According to NWS HeatRisk forecasts, heat risk will migrate east over the weekend, with some cities facing extreme heat risk by Sunday. A closer look at the data reveals the major cities facing triple-digit temperatures this holiday weekend
To determine the cities where it will be over 100°F this weekend, Climate Crisis 247 reviewed daily high temperature forecasts from the National Digital Forecast Database of the NOAA. Cities were ranked based on average forecast maximum temperatures from July 4 to July 6, 2025. Supplemental data on heat risk classifications are based on data from the National Weather Service’s HeatRisk tool. Only cities with at least 50,000 residents were considered.
