From Flagstaff to Boston, Cities Preparing For Another Winter Storm: Will It Hit Near You?

While the ice is still thawing in some parts of the country, a second winter storm is forecast to hit later this week.

The National Weather Service is tracking a series of fast-moving clipper systems that will bring heavy snowfall and strong wind gusts throughout the Great Lakes region and the Northeast, as well as a winter storm forming in the Southwest. More than 90 counties are under winter weather watches, warnings, or advisories, representing over six million Americans. A look at NWS forecast data reveals a number of major cities that could experience snowfall accumulation greater than 10 inches and wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour this week.
To determine the cities gearing up for a second winter storm, Climate Crisis 247 reviewed data on snowfall forecasts and weather warnings and hazards from the NOAA’s National Weather Service. Cities with at least 50,000 residents were ranked based on total forecast snowfall accumulation for the 72 hours between January 28 and 30, 2025. Only cities in counties with active wind and winter weather warnings and hazards were considered.
