What is the Halloween weather forecast for your town? While the sudden, chilly onset of fall tends to stifle the best Halloween efforts – Superman wearing a jacket, a skeleton in a hoodie – this year trick-or-treaters may get to show off their costumes in full. Temperatures are projected to be in the 60s and 70s in major cities across the country, with little to no rain in the forecast. A closer look at the data reveals where Halloween will be abnormally nice this year.

To determine the Halloween weather forecast for the 50 largest cities, Climate Crisis 247 reviewed data on temperature projections from the NOAA’s National Digital Forecast Database. Forecast daily averages and maximums for October 31, 2024 were aggregated from the grid level to the place level using boundary definitions from the U.S. Census Bureau. Precipitation forecasts for October 31, 2024 are from the NOAA’s Weather Prediction Center and were aggregated using the same methodology. Deviations from climate normals were calculated using historical monthly county-level temperature data for October 1901 to 2000 from the National Centers for Environmental Information of the NOAA. The 50 largest cities are ordered here by population.
