This weekend, slow-moving storm systems are expected to dump multiple inches of rain in several heavily populated areas in the United States. Forecasters warn the downpours will raise flood risk, with South Florida and the New Mexico Staked Plains region facing the greatest threat.

The National Weather Service has issued coastal flood advisories in 70 counties, representing 13.6 million Americans. The NWS has also issued separate flash flood watches in 28 more inland counties, covering 1.1 million Americans. A closer look at the data reveals the cities forecast to get the most rain this weekend.

To determine the cities forecast to get the most rain this weekend, Climate Crisis 247 reviewed data on quantitative precipitation forecasts from the NOAA’s National Digital Forecast Database. Cities were ranked based on total forecast cumulative rainfall for the period September 12 to 14, 2025. Only cities with at least 100,000 were considered. Population data is from the U.S. Census Bureau.
