Snow on Top of Snow: These Cities Will Get Hit Again with A Storm This Week

This past weekend, a winter storm brought snow, sleet, and freezing rain throughout the Midwest and Northeast, depositing more than 10 inches of snow in some parts of New England. While there are still several inches of snow on the ground in many major cities, two incoming winter storms this week are forecast to deliver even more.

Two major storm systems are forecast to impact the country this week. The first storm will bring heavy snow up the Mid-Atlantic, while the second storm will travel from Kansas City to Chicago. The back-to-back storms will bring six to 12 inches of additional snowfall to dozens of cities already inundated with heavy snow accumulation.

To determine the cities forecast to receive the most additional snowfall, Climate Crisis 247 reviewed data on observed snowfall and forecast snowfall from the NOAA. Cities with at least 25,000 residents were ranked based on the sum total of observed snowfall accumulation from the last 72 hours plus forecast snowfall for the next 72 hours. Only cities that received at least some snowfall from February 8 to 10 and are forecast to receive additional snowfall from February 12 to 14 were included.
