The 20 Cities Where It Will Be Over 100°F Today; Is Yours On The List?

While Labor Day marks the first day of fall on the meteorological calendar, many cities are grappling with summer-like temperature extremes this week. The National Weather Service has issued extreme heat warnings in 102 counties stretching from Oregon to Texas, representing 38.2 million Americans.

In dozens of major cities, temperatures will breach 100°F on Thursday. While triple-digit temperatures are common in the Southwest this time of year, cities as far north as Kennewick, Washington are forecast to experience temperatures over 100°F as a late-season heat wave envelops the area. A closer look at the data reveals the cities where it will be over 100°F today.

To determine the cities where it will be hottest today, Climate Crisis 247 reviewed data on temperature forecasts from the NOAA’s National Digital Forecast Database. Cities were ranked based on maximum forecast temperature for September 4, 2025. Only cities with at least 75,000 residents were considered. Population data is from the U.S. Census Bureau.
