Tropical Storm Dexter to Dump Multiple Inches of Rainfall on These Southeast Cities

Tropical Storm Dexter is expected to drench parts of the Southeastern United States this week, bringing heavy rainfall and the risk of flash flooding from the Gulf Coast to the Carolinas. With saturated soils in some areas and slow-moving rain bands expected to persist for days, forecasters are warning that even moderate rainfall totals could trigger dangerous conditions.

As millions brace for rain, nearly the entire state of Georgia is under flood watch from the National Weather Service. Large swaths of the Southeast will receive several inches of rain through the end of the week, with isolated areas in Georgia, South Carolina, and the Florida Panhandle potentially getting more than six inches. The storm’s interaction with a stalled frontal boundary will funnel deep tropical moisture across the region, enhancing rainfall rates and increasing the likelihood of flooding in low-lying areas. A closer look at the data reveals where a tropical disturbance will bring the most rain this week.
To determine the cities that will get the most rain this week, Climate Crisis 247 reviewed data on quantitative precipitation from the NOAA’s National Digital Forecast Database. Cities were ranked based on total forecast cumulative rainfall for the period August 5 to August 7, 2025. Only cities with at least 25,000 residents were considered.
