Last week, the Trump administration announced its intention to dismantle the Department of Education. The announcement is the latest in a series of massive cuts to the federal government made by the Trump administration and the Department of Government Efficiency.

DOGE reforms? Climate Programs That May Get Gutted By the Trump Administration

While many Americans support efficiency cuts to the federal government, a majority disapprove of the job DOGE has done so far. In a recent NBC News poll, 28% of Americans agreed that DOGE should slow down to assess its impact, while 33% agreed that the program is reckless and should stop now before more damage is done.

In a separate survey by YouGov, pollers asked U.S. adults which agencies and departments should be eliminated, expanded, or reduced. While a majority of Americans supported the preservation of several Trump targets – including environmental programs like the National Park Service and the Environmental Protection Agency – the survey results show that DOGE is actually the one federal department Americans wanted to eliminate the most. A closer look at the survey data reveals the federal departments Americans want to keep the most.

To determine the departments Americans want to keep the most, Climate Crisis 247 reviewed polling data from YouGov from March 16 to 18, 2025. Federal departments were ranked based on the percentage of U.S. adult citizens who answered that they should be expanded or kept the same.
