LA Homes Test Positive For Toxic Smoke

One of the problems with the large number of wildfires in the LA area goes beyond fire and water damage. Some of the smoke that entered the homes of nearby relatives is toxic. And, the number of homes is not trivial.
Among the problems the smoke has caused is that to check for the dangerous effects, experts have to go from home to home. Residents usually have to be home when the experts can make it. And, there is the money, Bloomberg reports. “Without federal and local standards on how to deal with contaminants like arsenic and the carcinogen benzene, dozens of researchers and private specialists are combing through yards and homes. “
The toxins include arsenic, lead, barium, and copper. The houses need to be tested from top to bottom.
Global Problem
The LA problem is the tip of a global iceberg. Anywhere a large wildfire has occurred, the same problems are encountered. Added together, that means homes and businesses which have to number in the tens of thousands,
The smoke resident is a long-term threat. People may not become ill from the toxins for months or even years. This will bring up the issue of liability, significant healthcare costs, and productivity. If the fires are large enough, this could dent local GDP.
