Detroit Is the Worst City For Asthma

Asthma, a potentially dangerous breathing disorder, can be made worse by polluted air. The Asthma and Allergy Foundation says 28 million people have Asthma, which makes it among the most widespread illnesses in the US.
The research firm released its new “Asthma Capital,” which lists the 100 most hazardous cities for individuals with the disease. The study was based on three pieces of information. The first is asthma provenance. The second is emergency department visits for asthma. The third is deaths due to asthma. The study also lists several risk factors. These include poverty, air quality pollen, and lack of health insurance.
Hot Cities And Wildfires
The top city on the list is Detroit. Followed by Rochester, NY, Allentown, PA, Philadelphia, PA, Cleveland, OH, Fresno, CA, Hartford, CT, Albany, NY, Providence, RI, Milwaukee, WI. Most are older industrial cities, and many have experienced a decline in population over the last half-century.Â
Detroit is high on the list because of asthma prevalence and deaths. Fortunately, Detroit is not exposed to some of the triggers that can lead to attacks. High on that list is wildfires. One other advantage it has is that the city does not get extremely hot, unlike cities like Phoenix and Las Vegas.
If impoverished, older industrial cities continue to dominate the list, Detroit will stay near the top.
