Drone Delivery Drives Down Pollution
Although some delivery vehicles don’t use fossil fuels, the majority of these fleets still do. Their fleets could be converted to green energy, but the cost across all of them would be well into the billions of dollars. The solution may be drowned, a process Jeff Bezos of Amazon first mentioned a decade ago
According to Inside Climate News, “Electric drones could make small package deliveries cleaner.” The two hurdles so far are noise and FAA regulations. In some areas, drones operate near airplanes and airports. And drones are noisy enough to disturb people in the areas they use during delivery.
The FAA and noise problems won’t be handled soon. It would seem that the noise problem would be handled by now in the world of AI design. The FAA is more acute. The traffic around America’s largest airports is already dangerous. A new ingredient could put that over the edge.
The drone solution is like other technologies that could make the world greener. It is expensive or, at times, nearly impossible. These technologies range from nuclear energy delivered by plants built in months and approved by the federal government to airplanes powered by solar energy.
Driverless cars are virtually all electric. But approvals are done at the state or city level. While their benefits may be substantial, the red tape is not.
Who would benefit from drone delivery? Because drivers would be unnecessary, Amazon, UPS, and FedEx. Some of their fleets could be gradually phased out.
Fortune Business Insights expects the drone package delivery business to grow into a huge financial opportunity. “The global drone delivery service market size was valued at USD 3.47 billion in 2025. It is projected to grow from USD 5.06 billion in 2026 to USD 20.98 billion by 2034, exhibiting a CAGR of 19.45%. Maybe. There are a number of hurdles to clear.
