Florida Red Tide Kills Dolphins And Fish

A huge red tide caused by global warming has begun to kill fish and dolphins off Florida’s coast. The situation is not likely to improve.
*Florida Climate Problems
*Tremendous Losses From Floods
According to The Guardian, “Several counties have issued health alerts in response to the outbreak, which scientists say began in the Gulf of Mexico last year when Hurricanes Helene and Milton tore up nutrient-rich waters that feed the algae.”
Low Oxygen
This algae robs the water of oxygen, which creates danger to dolphins and fish that wash up on beaches. Many of these beaches have had to close.
The EPA recently described the problem in depth. “Higher water temperatures combined with increased stormwater runoff of nutrients can result in conditions favorable for algal blooms. Consequently, with a changing climate, harmful algal blooms can occur more often, in more fresh or marine waterbodies, and can be more intense.”
No Regulation
Among the most difficult problems are the ocean and Gulf of Mexico temperatures, which are at record highs. These temperatures half the algae growth. The pollution runoff from part of Florida might be lessened, but it appears there are few regulations or laws that are enforced.
