Miami & Other Florida Cities That Hit Record High Temps This Month
Average temperatures across the continental United States hit an all-time monthly high in July 2026. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the average temperature in the Lower 48 was 76.9°F last month – exceeding the previous record of 76.8°F that has stood for nearly a century. In parts of the Southeast, August has offered little relief from the heat.
Earlier this month, a heatwave pushed the mercury well into the triple digits over a large swath of the country. Since mid-August, over 90 million Americans – from Texas over to the Carolinas and south through Florida – were under Extreme Heat Warnings or Heat Alerts from the National Weather Service.
While some of the highest temperatures were reported inland – in parts of Louisiana, Texas, and Oklahoma – the heat wave also pushed temperatures to historic triple-digit highs across Florida. In Miami, a city where the proximity of the ocean tends to moderate temperatures, the mercury recently rose to 100°F, matching the local all-time record high set in 1942. Miami is one of several cities in Florida where triple digit temperatures in recent weeks either matched or broke long-standing records.
Using data from NOAA’s Northeast Regional Climate Center, Climate Crisis 247 identified the Florida cities where 100-plus degree temperatures hit all-time records this month. For context, we also included average summer temperatures in 2025 and during the 20th century at the county level using data from the NOAA. All additional supplemental data is also from NOAA.
