Teenagers Don’t Want Children Due To Climate Crisis

Several research papers have shown that young people have reconsidered having children because of the dangers climate change will pose in a few decades. New data show that over 20% of Americans who are aged 16 to 20 believe that they should not and will not have children.

The potential economic impact is huge. The US population is barely growing today. As the population ages, it pressures several parts of the US economy, such as social security.

Jobs Will Go Without Workers

The number of people available for essential jobs could disappear in 30 years. Parts of the US economy may disappear because there are not enough people to allow them to function.

One argument is that AI can fill the unfilled jobs. If so, the drop in birth rate may not be so damaging. However, it is unsafe to assume that technology, still in its infancy, will solve a problem that is not.

Climate change is worsening. People’s worry about their children’s fate is not a guess about the future. It is a decision they are making today.
