Ukraine War Causes Surge In Pollution Equals 90 Million Cars

“…,,,in the 24 months since the invasion emissions have significantly increased to 175 million tons of carbon dioxide. This exceeds the annual emissions of a highly industrialized country like The Netherlands, putting 90 million new petrol cars on the road, or building 260 coal-fired power units of 200 MW each.” —Center for Environmental Initiatives Ecoaction

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has caused an unfathomable amount of air pollution, a new study shows. The effects are also $32 billion.

Climatecrisis247 believes that, while this number is high, it is part of a huge amount of pollution caused by military activity worldwide. According to The Atlantic, “The U.S. Department of Defense puts its own emissions at 51 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent in fiscal year 2021, which was roughly the same as the emissions produced by Sweden.”

The number of military activities in the world has increased. The second large one is Israel’s invasion of Gaza.

This data is a reminder of what would happen to the world’s atmosphere if much larger conflict broke out, which they could in the Middle East and eventually in the Pacific. The military activity could kill tens of thousands of people. The resulting pollution could kill as many.
