California Landslides Accelerate, Threatening Homes and Infrastructure
Douglas McIntyre, Editor-in-Chief at Climate Crisis 24/7, reports on alarming new data showing slow-moving landslides destabilizing California’s Palos Verdes Peninsula. According to NASA, the land is sliding into the ocean at a rate of four inches per week. The combination of heavy rains and past wildfires, which destroyed tree and bush roots that normally stabilize the soil, has accelerated the process. While efforts can be made to reinforce homes and buildings, long-term solutions appear unlikely, meaning many structures may eventually be lost to the ocean.
