Colorado River Water Crisis Worsens as Groundwater Vanishes
Douglas McIntyre, Editor-in-Chief at Climate Crisis 24/7, reports on new research showing that the Colorado River Basin has lost 27.8 million acre-feet of groundwater since 2003—an amount equal to Lake Mead’s entire volume. Using satellite data, the study reveals that underground water is vanishing at a much faster rate than previously believed. This poses a major threat to the water supply for the American Southwest, which relies heavily on the Colorado River system.
