Metro madness: Massive Cities Outpace many Nations in Greenhouse Gas Emissions
According to a new study, cities like Shanghai, Tokyo, New York and Houston emit greenhouse gases at levels rivaling or exceeding those of many nations. Shanghai leads the polluting pack with 256 million metric tons annually, followed by Tokyo at 250 million. Meanwhile, New York City and Houston emit 160 and 150 million metric tons, respectively, placing them among the top 50 global emitters if they were countries, a trend that highlights the growing environmental impact of major cities.
