Nukes to the Rescue! Nuclear power seen as solution to the hungry habits of AI
Nuclear energy, once sidelined after the Three Mile Island incident in 1979, is making a comeback in the U.S., driven in part by rising energy demands from the boom in artificial intelligence (AI). With the current power grid heavily reliant on renewables, natural gas, oil and coal, tech giants are investing in nuclear solutions, with Google and Microsoft having already made moves toward nuclear energy, including investments in small reactors and potential plans to reopen a reactor at Three Mile Island. As wind and solar may not grow rapidly enough to replace fossil fuels, nuclear power is poised to play a vital role in meeting energy needs.
