With surface water in the Gulf reaching nearly 90°F and the Atlantic super-warmed, storms are intensifying rapidly — sometimes jumping from tropical storm status to major hurricanes within two days. In addition, wind speeds have increased by as much as 15% since 2019, signaling even greater storm strength in the future as ocean temperatures rise.
