The heat is on: Climate Change Could Force 45 Million to Relocate Within India by 2050
A new study predicts that 45 million people in India could be displaced by 2050 due to climate change, with extreme heat, air pollution and typhoons forcing huge movements of population. The crisis, which affects major cities like the capital, New Delhi, could worsen, especially given India’s 1.3 billion citizens, the largest total in the world. This situation is not isolated to India, however; similar climate migration pressures are seen worldwide, including in the U.S. A big challenge lies in finding places for these displaced people, who may face starvation or government-sanctioned military resistance during relocation attempts.
