They’re a goner: North Carolina Homes Swept away by Erosion and Rising Seas
Coastal erosion and extreme weather are causing homes in North Carolina and other coastal regions to collapse into the sea. In the Tar Heel State, six stilt-supported homes have fallen into the ocean due to eroding pilings; meanwhile, similar issues are affecting Florida’s barrier islands, Malibu, Calif., and Galveston, Texas. The primary concern is structural failure caused by erosion and violent waves, with experts predicting that, within years, many coastal areas will be rendered uninhabitable, thus raising alarms about the future of seaside living amid climate change.
