yo-yo temperatures in Antarctica signal growing climate-caused instability

While massive melting has hit Antarctica, Russia’s Vostok Station is currently experiencing temperatures as low as minus 87 degrees Fahrenheit, a sign of the wacky weather sparked by climate change. Located near the South Pole and at an elevation of eleven thousand feet, the research outpost serves as a climate observation hub as well as an ideal site for studying celestial bodies. While such frigid temperatures are typical, with a record low of minus 130 degrees, climate change signs are evident nearby. Parts of Antarctica’s ice are melting, dumping icebergs into the surrounding seas and contributing to rising sea levels.
