New York City Faces Financial Damage As Wildfires Grow

There have been hundreds of “brush fires” in the areas inside and new the New York City metro, which extends into Connecticut and New Jersey. Surprisingly, some have reached Manhattan, and there have been two fires on the island. This could worsen after nearly 50 days without rain and none in the forecast. The damage done so far is small, but none of the fires have moved toward the valuable property but have come close.

Fires close to Manhattan have done damage. CT Insider states, “In Berlin, a massive brush fire raged for weeks, requiring the National Guard to bring in helicopters equipped with water buckets — the first time the military had done so in decades.” Berlin is just south of Hartford.

The fire in Inwood Park, in northern Manhattan, is within a few hundred yards of residential areas. There has also been a small fire in Washington Heights, also in northern Manhattan

Fires Near Homes

It would be unwise to rule out the chances of property damage by brushfires in Manhattan. Ongoing winds and dry conditions continue and will for several days.
